Nigeria’s women’s basketball team, D’Tigress, touched down at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, on Monday to a rousing hero’s welcome following their historic victory at the 2025 FIBA Women’s Afrobasket.

Led by head coach Rena Wakama, the champions returned triumphantly with the Afrobasket trophy in hand, greeted by an ecstatic crowd that included cultural dancers, traditional drummers, officials, and enthusiastic basketball fans.

The jubilant atmosphere celebrated not just a win, but a milestone in history — D’Tigress became the first African team to win five consecutive Afrobasket titles, reaffirming their dominance on the continental stage.

After their arrival, the team is scheduled to proceed to the Presidential Villa, where they will be officially received by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu.

President Tinubu had earlier issued a congratulatory message, praising the team for their “unwavering dedication, exemplary teamwork, and unmatched consistency” in representing Nigeria with pride.

D’Tigress sealed the championship with a thrilling win over Mali in Sunday’s final, held at the Palais des Sports de Treichville in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire.
