Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has vowed that the people of the state will resist any attempt to subvert their mandate in the 2026 governorship election, declaring that “electoral robbers” will be stopped through vigilance and mass participation.
Adeleke, in a statement signed by his spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, on Monday, urged indigenes of the state, especially those residing outside Osun, to take advantage of the ongoing Continuous Voter Registration exercise and transfer their Permanent Voter Cards back to the state. He said doing so would enable them to participate in the next governorship poll and ensure the retention of people-oriented leadership beyond 2026, when his current tenure ends.
“I call on Osun residents outside the state to transfer their voting cards to the state and ensure mass participation for retention of people-oriented leadership by August 2026. Our voting card is our weapon to prove that good governance is a possibility as Osun had been experiencing in the last two and half years.
“We must not only update our registration details, we should ensure we vote and protect our votes when the time comes. We must be getting ready to stop electoral robbers if they ever attempt to thwart electoral wills of the people,” the governor said.
Adeleke stressed that the state had witnessed steady development under his administration, insisting that continuity of governance depended on active participation in the electoral process.
He also charged state officials and leaders of thought across the local governments to mobilise their people for the CVR exercise, assuring that his government would continue to defend the democratic rights of the electorate.
The governor further expressed optimism that the Independent National Electoral Commission would conduct a seamless operation in the public interest.
INEC, in its own announcement, had said the Continuous Voter Registration exercise commenced on Monday with online registration, while data capturing of online registrants would begin on August 25 at local government headquarters across the state.
Meanwhile, INEC, on Monday, said it recorded over 26,000 visits to its Continuous Voter Registration portal just hours after the nationwide exercise commenced.
